Mr Sam Swire (Chairman of SWIRE Shipping) was received by Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u and Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Sinaitakala Tu’imatamoana ‘i Fanakavakilangi Tuku’aho at the Royal Palace on Friday 14th February 2025 to discuss SWIRE Group’s assistance for ‘Advancing Cervical Cancer Elimination in the Pacific (AdvanCE).
In November 2024, SWIRE Group donated AUD$25.9 million in support of cervical cancer screening and treatment for over 130,000.00 women in seven Pacific countries namely, Fiji, Kiribati, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu.
Her Majesty stated the timely assistance will help better equip Tonga’s Ministry of Health with the necessary tools, resources and technology to allow for faster testing times, to ensure early detection and treatment and thus, lessen the chances of death.
Her Majesty further applauded the efforts of Ministry of Health in actively mobilizing the Launch of the Cervical Screening Planning Workshop in January 2025 and the ongoing roll out of the HPV Vaccine campaign amongst, the younger female population.
Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u was also, pleased to nominate Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Sinaitakala Tu’imatamoana ‘i Fanakavakilangi Tuku’aho as the Honorary Patron for the AdvanCE programme in Tonga.
