
Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau‘u, on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau‘u’s Charity, today received the generous donation of USD$250, 000.00 (over half a million Pa‘anga) from The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to provide financial support for rebuilding projects and assist Tonga in its humanitarian programs and initiatives.
During the special handover ceremony at the Royal Palace, Her Majesty expressed on behalf of the people of Tonga her deepest gratitude to The King Salman Centre for Humanitarian Aid and Relief for this significant support.
Her Majesty said it will bring our two Kingdoms even closer together and foster further avenues of cooperation in areas such as climate change, education, natural disasters and culture; and also to help each other in times of need. In particular, this fund will ensure that people affected by the unprecedented HungaTonga-Hunga-Ha’apai volcanic eruption and resulting tsunami, feel they are not forgotten, particularly as they rebuild their new home and new life in a totally new location.
Her Royal Highness Princess Angelika Lātūfuipeka Tuku‘aho, the esteemed High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Tonga to the Commonwealth of Australia, helped facilitate the donation through the Tongan High Commission with the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Canberra is currently in Tonga and attended the handover ceremony.
The Saudi delegation was led by Mr Faleh Abdullah Alsubaie -Representative of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, Mr Mohannad Ahmed Alhefdi – Assistant Head of Economic and Cultural Department of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Canberra and Mr Abdulmalik Abdulaziz Alkhalifah from The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.
The Saudi delegation will be visiting Nuku’alofa until Thursday, 09 March 2023. During their visit, they’ll explore opportunities where the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia might be able to cooperate with the Kingdom of Tonga, through meeting with other senior members of the Tongan Royal Family, the Acting Prime Minister and other government
officials.
